Description
3D-Printed Dart Frog Breeding Hut
A reusable printed shelter intended to provide a dark retreat and an additional potential egg-deposition site for suitable dart frogs.
Use
Position the hut within a structured planted vivarium where the frogs have alternative hiding and deposition options. Its removable, smooth interior can make routine inspection and cleaning easier than some porous natural materials.
Claims corrected
We have removed the previous statements that the hut is “frog-safe”, “food-safe”, BPA-free, mould/bacteria resistant, superior in hygiene to coconut hides or able to support more consistent breeding outcomes. Those claims are not established by the design or base filament alone.
Printed-material note
PLA is a commonly used printing polymer, but the finished part depends on the filament formulation, additives, print quality and wear. Rinse before use, inspect periodically and replace the hut if it becomes damaged or difficult to clean.
Breeding
Artificial hides can provide useful optional deposition sites; they do not guarantee breeding, healthy spawn or successful tadpole development.
Breeding-Accessory Claim Review
Last reviewed: 5 September 2026
A printed hide can provide shelter and a potential deposition site, but it does not guarantee egg laying, fertility, hatch rate or lower infection risk. PLA is the base polymer; finished-part properties depend on filament formulation, pigments/additives, printing conditions and wear, so Frogfather does not describe a printed item as universally “non-toxic”, antibacterial or mould-proof solely because it is PLA.
