Description
Wild Colour Vestigial-Wing Small Fruit Fly
Drosophila melanogaster – Go Large Culture
Our Wild Colour Vestigial-Wing Drosophila melanogaster cultures provide a dependable, flightless small fruit fly ideal for dart frogs, thumbnails, froglets and other small insectivores.
Supplied in a generous Go Large producing tub, these cultures are designed for keepers who want consistency, reliability and control over their live food supply.
Why Choose Vestigial-Wing Melanogaster?
Vestigial-wing fruit flies:
-
Are flightless (reduced wings prevent sustained flight)
-
Stay contained when tapped into feeding cups
-
Are ideal for small species and juvenile amphibians
-
Provide steady, manageable movement that stimulates feeding
The wild colour form closely resembles natural melanogaster in appearance, making them a versatile, widely accepted feeder insect.
Choose Your Life Stage
We offer selectable life stages so you can control your production schedule:
-
Newly Made – Maximum production window
-
Intermediate – Balanced feeding and ongoing hatch
-
Mature – Ready to feed immediately
This flexibility allows you to stagger cultures and maintain a continuous supply.
Go Large Culture
The Go Large size provides:
-
Higher initial fly volume
-
Stronger sustained hatch cycles
-
Better value for multi-frog setups
-
Reduced frequency of reordering
Ideal for breeders and keepers running multiple enclosures.
