All-In-One Vitamin & Mineral Dust for Feeder Insects

A simple single-powder supplement for lightly dusting feeder insects immediately before feeding.

Provides calcium, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and carotenoids. At Frogfather we use it as our routine supplementation system, but amphibian nutrient requirements vary and no single frequency has been scientifically established as optimal for every species and life stage.

Description

Frogfather All-in-One Vitamin & Mineral Dust

A single dusting supplement developed to make routine feeder supplementation simpler and more consistent.

Captive amphibians fed cultured insects require careful nutritional management. Common feeder insects are typically low in calcium and may also provide inadequate amounts of some micronutrients, including vitamin A. Dusting and gut-loading are established methods of improving the nutritional value of feeder insects.

Frogfather All-in-One Vitamin & Mineral Dust combines calcium, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and carotenoids in one powder intended for light dusting of suitable feeder insects immediately before feeding.

What the evidence supports

  • Many commonly cultured feeder insects are naturally poor sources of calcium.
  • Vitamin A status is an important consideration in captive amphibian nutrition.
  • Dusting and gut-loading can improve delivery of calcium and vitamins from feeder insects.
  • Freshly dusted feeders should be offered promptly because supplement can be lost from the surface of insects over time.

What the evidence does not yet establish

There is no scientifically established universal vitamin-and-mineral dose or supplementation frequency that is known to be optimal for every dart frog species, life stage and husbandry system. Amphibian nutrient requirements remain incompletely characterised, and both deficiency and excessive supplementation can cause problems.

For that reason, we no longer describe any amphibian supplement as being completely without overdose or imbalance risk, nor do we claim that one fixed schedule has been scientifically proven for every species.

How Frogfather uses it

At Frogfather, we use this product as our routine single-powder supplement and apply a light coating to appropriately sized feeder insects immediately before feeding. In our own dart-frog husbandry we commonly use it at routine feeds rather than rotating several different powders.

That is Frogfather’s practical husbandry system, not a claim that an every-feed schedule has been scientifically established as the universal requirement for all amphibians. Feeding frequency, feeder type, life stage, species, reproductive status, UVB exposure and the rest of the diet should all be considered.

How to use

  1. Place the required number of feeder insects into a clean dusting cup or tub.
  2. Add only enough powder to produce a light, even coating.
  3. Gently swirl or shake the feeders.
  4. Offer them immediately.
  5. Keep the container sealed, cool and dry between uses and replace old or contaminated powder.

Vitamin A, carotenoids and calcium

Vitamin A deserves particular care. Captive amphibians can develop vitamin A deficiency, while excessive preformed vitamin A can also be harmful. Carotenoids have nutritional and pigmentation roles, but they should not automatically be assumed to provide an adequate substitute for preformed vitamin A in every amphibian species.

Calcium provision is likewise important because many feeder insects have an unfavourable calcium profile. Calcium metabolism also interacts with vitamin D3 and, where used, UVB exposure, so supplementation should be considered as part of the whole husbandry system rather than in isolation.

Suitable animals

This product was developed primarily for use with small insect-eating captive exotics, including dart frogs. Requirements differ between taxa, species and life stages. For animals with specialised nutritional requirements, veterinary dietary plans, unusual feeder regimes or substantial UVB exposure, use species-appropriate guidance rather than assuming one routine fits every animal.

Important note

This is a nutritional supplement, not a treatment for metabolic bone disease, vitamin deficiency or other illness. If an amphibian shows weakness, abnormal posture, poor feeding, skeletal changes, repeated reproductive problems or other signs of ill health, seek advice from a suitably experienced exotic-animal veterinary surgeon.

Husbandry & Evidence Review

Last reviewed: 5 September 2026

This guidance has been reviewed against relevant peer-reviewed amphibian nutrition research and established specialist guidance. Where species-specific nutritional requirements have not been established, we distinguish Frogfather’s practical husbandry routine from settled scientific evidence.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use this supplement at every feed?

Yes. Frogfather All-In-One Vitamin & Mineral Dust is designed as an every-feed supplement, helping provide consistent calcium, vitamins, minerals and trace elements without the need for a complicated rotation schedule.

Does this replace my calcium and vitamin powders?

Yes, it has been developed to replace complex supplement rotations with one complete, easy-to-use formula. Instead of juggling separate calcium, vitamin and mineral products, you can use one supplement consistently.

Why is every-feed supplementation better?

Nature does not feed on a rotation schedule. Wild prey items provide a broad range of nutrients over time, not one isolated supplement on one specific day. This product is designed around that principle: small, consistent supplementation at every feed.

Is it suitable for dart frogs?

Yes. It was developed with dart frogs in mind and is suitable for use with fruit flies and other small feeder insects commonly used for dart frogs, froglets and similar amphibians.

Is it suitable for geckos and other reptiles?

Yes. It can also be used for geckos and other insect-eating exotics that benefit from dusted feeder insects. Always use appropriately sized feeders and follow good husbandry practices.

Does it stick well to fruit flies?

Yes. The microfine powder is designed to coat small feeder insects such as fruit flies evenly, helping provide good coverage without heavy clumping.

Which size should I choose?

100g Large Tub + Shaker is best for larger collections or keepers wanting the best value per gram.

80g Shaker is the most convenient ready-to-use option for most keepers.

50g Refill Pouch is the most economical option if you already have a shaker and want to reduce packaging waste.

Why subscribe?

Subscribing helps ensure you always have fresh supplement available when you need it. It also saves money, reduces last-minute ordering, and helps keep supplementation consistent.

Can I pause or cancel my subscription?

Yes. Subscriptions can be managed from your account, including pausing, skipping or cancelling future deliveries.

How should I store it?

Keep the supplement sealed in a cool, dry place away from moisture and direct sunlight. Always reseal after use to help maintain freshness.
