Fruit Fly Feast — FAQs
Is this for both melanogaster and hydei?
Yes — we use it for both species with excellent consistency.
How thick should the mix be?
Think “thick porridge”. Too runny invites issues; too dry stalls production.
Do I still need to add yeast on top?
Yes. A light sprinkle on the surface helps kickstart the culture.
What size should I buy?
500g suits continuous or larger runs.
Feeding & Evidence Review
Last reviewed: 5 September 2026
Published amphibian nutrition research shows that cultured feeder insects can be low in calcium and some vitamins, and that dusting and gut-loading can improve nutrient delivery. However, feeder composition and supplement retention vary considerably. Product and culture-performance observations below are therefore separated from claims about the nutritional needs of the animal eating the feeder.
