Description

Cebu Blue Pothos – Established Rooted Terrarium Plant

Epipremnum pinnatum ‘Cebu Blue’ is a striking tropical climbing plant recognised for its elongated leaves and unusual metallic blue-green colouring. The foliage develops a particularly attractive silvery-blue sheen when grown beneath good-quality vivarium lighting.

Each plant supplied is an established rooted cutting, rather than a freshly cut or unrooted node. This gives the plant a much stronger start and allows it to begin establishing within the enclosure more quickly.

Cebu Blue can be allowed to trail across a background, planted beside cork bark or encouraged to climb branches, wood and textured vivarium walls. As it matures and is given something to climb, the leaves can become progressively larger and may eventually develop natural divisions.

Why Cebu Blue Is Good for Terrariums and Vivariums

Cebu Blue is particularly well suited to warm, humid bioactive enclosures. Its aerial roots allow it to attach to textured backgrounds and natural materials, helping to soften hard surfaces and create a more established rainforest appearance.

  • Excellent vertical coverage: the vines can be trained around cork, branches and planted backgrounds.
  • Distinctive foliage: metallic blue-green leaves provide contrast against mosses, bromeliads and darker tropical plants.
  • Humidity tolerant: it performs well in the warm, humid conditions found in many tropical vivariums.
  • Useful natural cover: established growth creates shaded areas, visual barriers and resting places for inhabitants.
  • Easy to control: vines can be trimmed whenever they become too long or dense.
  • Easy to propagate: healthy trimmings containing a node can be rooted to produce additional plants.

Suitable Enclosures

Cebu Blue can be used in a wide range of planted enclosures, including:

  • Dart frog vivariums
  • Tree frog terrariums
  • Gecko enclosures
  • Tropical reptile vivariums
  • Bioactive terrariums
  • Paludarium planting areas above the waterline
  • Humid houseplant cabinets

It is best used as a climbing or background plant in medium to large enclosures. Regular pruning will keep it suitable for smaller terrariums.

Planting Cebu Blue in a Vivarium

Plant the rooted base into a moist but free-draining tropical substrate. Avoid burying the stem too deeply, as the existing roots should be covered while the lowest leaf and growing stem remain above the substrate.

Position the plant near cork bark, a branch, a textured background or another climbing surface. The stem can initially be held loosely in position until the aerial roots begin attaching naturally.

Light

Provide medium to bright indirect light. Strong vivarium LED lighting generally encourages more compact growth and helps bring out the characteristic blue-silver colouring.

Avoid placing freshly planted cuttings immediately beneath intense lighting without allowing them time to acclimatise. Very low light may result in greener foliage, longer gaps between leaves and weaker growth.

Water and Humidity

Cebu Blue appreciates moderate to high humidity, but the roots should not remain permanently waterlogged. Allow the substrate around the root zone to remain lightly moist while maintaining good drainage and airflow.

Once established, the plant is relatively forgiving and can tolerate brief periods when the surface of the substrate becomes slightly drier.

Growth and Maintenance

This is a potentially vigorous climbing plant. Trim the growing tip whenever the vine reaches the desired length. Pruning encourages branching and helps produce a fuller plant.

In smaller vivariums, occasional maintenance will be required to prevent the plant from shading slower-growing species. In taller enclosures, it can be allowed to climb and form larger foliage.

Established Rooted Cutting

The plant shown is representative of the rooted cuttings supplied. Every cutting is established before sale, but the exact number, size and position of leaves will naturally vary.

Minor cosmetic marks, older leaves or small variations in colour are normal for live plants and do not affect their ability to establish.
