4L Pre-Vented Isopod Breeding Tub

A deep 4-litre culture container supplied with ventilation already installed for terrestrial isopod husbandry.

Why the extra depth can be useful

• Allows a deeper substrate layer than many shallow culture boxes.
• Provides more room for leaf litter, bark and moisture gradients.
• Can be useful for species that spend substantial time within or beneath the substrate.

Ventilation claims corrected

The previous page said pre-venting produces “healthier colonies” and a balanced microclimate. Ventilation is important, but the correct amount varies substantially among isopod species and setups. More ventilation can also increase drying.

Use the installed ventilation as a starting configuration and adjust substrate moisture, leaf litter and additional venting only according to the requirements of the species being cultured.

Escape-proof wording corrected

We have removed the guarantee that the tub is “genuinely escape proof”, including for tiny mancae. Containment depends on lid fit, vent aperture, any manufacturing tolerances and the size of the juveniles.

Before use, inspect the completed tub against the smallest life stage you need to retain.

Species suitability

Depth can be useful for many Cubaris and other substrate-associated isopods, but the phrase “ideal for Cubaris” should not be treated as universal husbandry. Different species vary in moisture, ventilation, protein/calcium and substrate requirements.
