Description
Flightless Fruit Fly Cultures – Drosophila hydei
If you’re feeding thumbnails, froglets, small day geckos, or keeping a steady feeder routine, Drosophila hydei are the “workhorse” culture: larger than melanogaster, reliable, and ideal when you want consistent output without tiny prey disappearing into the background.
Choose your culture stage
- New culture – freshly started, needs a little time to ramp up. Best if you’re planning ahead.
- Intermediate culture – already developing strongly; ideal balance of longevity and near-term production.
- Mature culture – producing now (or very close). Best when you need flies immediately.
Same-day dispatch
Orders placed before 2pm are dispatched the same day (dispatch days apply). Orders after 2pm dispatch the next available day.
On arrival (quick checklist)
- Open the parcel and check cultures are upright and ventilated.
- Keep at normal room temperatures (avoid cold windowsills / direct heat sources).
- Give the culture 12–24 hours to settle after transit before judging output.
Good to know
- Production speed depends on temperature; warmer rooms generally mean faster cycling.
- Culture stage affects how quickly you’ll see usable numbers.
