Description
Dendrobates auratus “Highland Bronze” Tadpoles
Raise your own Dendrobates auratus “Highland Bronze” from tadpole to froglet with captive bred stock from Frogfather. This is a beautiful and rewarding dart frog form, known for its rich bronze tones, attractive patterning and suitability for planted bioactive vivariums.
Dendrobates auratus are one of the classic dart frog species kept in the hobby. They are generally hardy, attractive and well suited to naturalistic setups when provided with stable conditions, good planting, leaf litter, clean water and a steady supply of suitable live food.
These tadpoles are ideal for keepers who want to experience the full development process rather than buying established froglets. Watching them grow, develop legs, absorb the tail and finally emerge as tiny froglets is one of the most rewarding parts of keeping dart frogs.

Why Choose Highland Bronze?
Highland Bronze auratus are a stunning form of Dendrobates auratus, developing into attractive bronze-toned frogs with strong visual appeal. They make an excellent project for keepers who enjoy naturalistic vivariums and want a frog with real presence once mature.
Unlike thumbnail species, Dendrobates auratus are a slightly larger and more substantial dart frog, making them a good choice for keepers who want something visible, characterful and well suited to a planted display vivarium.
If you are preparing a setup for them, you may also find our bioactive vivariums, vivarium plants, bioactive supplies and live food useful.
Tadpole Care
Highland Bronze tadpoles should be raised carefully in clean, stable water. They can be raised individually in small containers, with regular partial water changes and light feeding. Clean water and consistency are more important than heavy feeding.
- Raise tadpoles individually where possible to reduce competition and avoid damage.
- Use clean, dechlorinated or remineralised water.
- Keep water quality stable with regular partial water changes.
- Feed sparingly with suitable tadpole foods such as spirulina-based food, fine fish flakes or specialist tadpole diets.
- Remove uneaten food before it fouls the water.
- Maintain stable temperatures of around 22–26°C.
- Move froglets into a secure grow-out setup once the front legs emerge and the tail is mostly absorbed.
