An established adult pair of captive-bred Oophaga pumilio ‘Almirante’ as described in the current listing.
Pair status
The animals are offered as an established pair based on their current history. That should not be read as a guarantee of future reproductive success or permanent compatibility after relocation.
Environment
Provide dense planting, leaf litter, elevated structure, multiple refuges and useful airflow. Frogfather commonly maintains O. pumilio in moderate tropical temperatures. The previous 70–95% RH figure is not presented as a constant set-point.
Enclosure size
We have removed the fixed “minimum 45 × 45 × 45 cm” statement. A suitable Oophaga enclosure must provide enough usable structure, visual separation and feeding/deposition opportunities for the particular animals.
Feeding and supplementation
Offer appropriately sized live prey such as small fruit flies and springtails. We have removed the phrase “micro-calcium dustings” as a stand-alone husbandry prescription; supplementation should be considered as a complete nutrient programme.
Behaviour and breeding
Oophaga pumilio is territorial and has specialised obligate egg-feeding parental care. Breeding requires more than simply maintaining a male/female pair.
