Description

Screw-In Stainless-Steel Mesh Vents

Create secure, controlled airflow in plastic tubs, grow-out enclosures and culture containers with these reusable screw-in ventilation panels.

Each vent features fine stainless-steel mesh held within a durable two-piece frame. The two sections screw together through a correctly sized opening, securely sandwiching the wall or lid of the container between them. This produces a much neater and more reliable finish than drilling groups of exposed ventilation holes or attaching mesh with adhesive.

Choose from 4cm, 6cm, 8cm or 10cm diameters to suit the size of your container and the amount of airflow required.

Available Sizes

  • 4cm: Suitable for smaller culture containers and compact tubs where only modest ventilation is required.
  • 6cm: A useful general-purpose size for isopod colonies, springtail cultures and feeder-insect containers.
  • 8cm: Ideal for amphibian grow-out tubs, larger insect cultures and medium-to-large storage boxes.
  • 10cm: Provides a generous ventilation area for larger grow-out enclosures and containers requiring increased airflow.

These recommendations are intended as a general guide. The correct amount of ventilation will depend on the container size, temperature, humidity, species being housed and the number and position of the vents installed.

Ideal For

  • Amphibian and frog grow-out tubs
  • Isopod colonies and breeding enclosures
  • Springtail cultures
  • Feeder-insect containers
  • Cricket, grasshopper and roach tubs
  • Other invertebrate cultures
  • Plastic storage boxes and DIY enclosures

Key Features

  • Available in four useful diameters
  • Fine stainless-steel mesh
  • Durable screw-together frame
  • No adhesive required for normal installation
  • Creates a secure and professional-looking finish
  • Suitable for installation in the side or lid of many plastic containers
  • Multiple vents can be used to create cross-ventilation
  • Can be carefully removed and reused

Choosing the Right Size

Smaller vents are useful for compact culture containers or setups requiring higher humidity. Larger vents provide a greater area of airflow and are generally better suited to larger grow-out tubs and insect enclosures.

You can also install two or more vents on opposing sides of a container to encourage cross-ventilation. This often provides more effective air exchange than installing a single vent in the lid.

Installation

  1. Choose where the vent will be positioned.
  2. Mark a correctly sized circular opening in the container.
  3. Carefully cut the opening using a suitable tool.
  4. Place one section of the vent on either side of the plastic.
  5. Screw the two sections together until securely fitted.

Important: Do not overtighten the vent, particularly when installing it in thin or brittle plastic. Always check that it is firmly fitted and that the mesh aperture and finished enclosure are appropriate for the species being housed.
