Springtail Supermix – Culture Food
A dry supplementary food blend used by Frogfather for maintaining springtail cultures on suitable charcoal, clay-ball and soil-based systems.
What it is intended to do
- Provide an easily offered supplementary food source for maintained springtail cultures.
- Support routine culture reproduction and harvesting when the wider culture conditions are suitable.
- Provide a simple, low-mess feeding routine.
Earlier wording described “explosive growth”, “reliable population booms” and consistently strong results. Those are not controlled-trial outcomes of this formulation, so we now describe them as Frogfather culture experience rather than guaranteed product performance.
How Frogfather uses it
Offer a very light amount, then wait until most of the food has been consumed before feeding again. Once-weekly feeding works in some of our cultures, but frequency should be adjusted to population size, temperature, moisture and how quickly food is disappearing.
Overfeeding can encourage unwanted mould, mites, odour or culture deterioration. Store sealed and dry.

Springtails are part of terrestrial decomposer food webs. Many species feed on fungi, microbes and decaying organic material, and microarthropods can contribute to decomposition. Their exact diet and ecological effect vary among taxa and conditions, so Frogfather does not describe a springtail culture as a complete waste-removal system or a guarantee of a stable, self-sustaining vivarium.
Bioactive enclosures still require observation, suitable substrate and leaf litter, moisture and ventilation management, animal feeding, plant care and removal of uneaten food or accumulated waste when necessary.
