Fresh Air Without the Escapees: Our New 40 mm Stick-On Fine Mesh Ventilation Discs

New product launch image showing a 40 mm stick-on fine mesh ventilation disc with ultra-fine mesh, designed for isopods, froglets, and exotic invertebrates, against a dark jungle background

If you’ve ever had that heart-stopping moment when a baby isopod (manca) scurries across your desk instead of staying snug in its tub, you’ll know exactly why we’re so excited about this. Ventilation is a balancing act in the world of isopods, inverts, and dart frog grow-outs—you need airflow, but you don’t want your tiniest charges making a break for it.

That’s why we’ve just added something new to the Frogfather shelves: the 40 mm Stick-On Fine Mesh Ventilation Disc

.

Why Ventilation Matters in Isopod and Invert Tubs

Isopods thrive in a balance of humidity, airflow, and bioactive stability. Too much airflow and you risk drying out your substrate; too little and you’re courting mould, stagnant air, and stressed colonies.

When it comes to dart frog grow-out tubs, that balance is just as important. The juveniles need clean air and stable conditions, without drafts that drop humidity too fast. In short: good ventilation makes or breaks your setup.

But here’s the kicker—those tiny isopod mancae are smaller than you think. Standard vents can be a liability if the mesh isn’t fine enough. And while some keepers DIY with drilled holes and hot glue, it’s not exactly a clean or stress-free solution.

The Stick-On Solution

Our 40 mm fine mesh discs take the faff out of ventilation. No screws, no tools, no panicked search for the right drill bit. Just a spot of Gorilla Glue™ gel, stick it to the outside of your tub, and you’ve got instant airflow.

  • Ultra-fine mesh keeps even the smallest mancae contained.
  • 40 mm across—big enough for serious airflow, compact enough to fit multiple on a single tub.
  • Versatile—ideal for isopods, springtails, other inverts, or dart frog grow-out tubs.
  • Durable—when fixed with Gorilla Glue™ gel, it’s there for good.

Think of it as a bioactive keeper’s cheat code: permanent, simple, escape-proof ventilation.

A Closer Look at the Mesh

The mesh itself is the star of the show. Up close you’ll see how incredibly fine it is—far finer than the holes you’d punch in with a soldering iron. That fine gauge is what stops mancae from wriggling their way out while still giving your colony the airflow it needs to avoid stagnant microclimates.

This also makes it a great option for dart frog keepers who want extra ventilation in grow-out tubs without the risk of tiny feeder escapees sneaking out.

How to Use Them

  1. Decide where you want airflow—typically on the sides near the substrate line, or higher up depending on your setup.
  2. Add a dab of Gorilla Glue™ gel around the outer rim of the disc.
  3. Press the disc firmly to the outside of your tub.
  4. Let it cure for a permanent, watertight bond.

No drills, no screws, no plastic cracking under pressure. Just stick, set, and done.

Why We’re Excited

Here at Frogfather, we’ve spent years messing about with DIY vents, mesh sheets, and whatever odd fixings we could find. But proper stick-on solutions have always been a bit of a holy grail: they save time, they’re secure, and they actually look tidy.

It’s not just about convenience—it’s about making bioactive keeping more accessible. Whether you’re raising a starter isopod colony, building a naturalistic vivarium, or running a rack of froglet tubs, you deserve kit that works without extra stress.

Grab Yours

We’re genuinely chuffed to launch these because they solve a problem every isopod keeper faces sooner or later. If you’re ready to stop worrying about escapees and start enjoying easy, reliable airflow, check them out here:

If your dart frogs spend all day hiding, you’re not alone. In the wild they live under rainforest canopies, weaving through leaf litter and bromeliads – not basking in bright light.

The fix? 🌿 More planting, natural hides, soft lighting, and the right temps (22–26°C is the sweet spot). Give them security, and you’ll see them hopping around much more often.
