Description
Pilea ‘Silver Tree’ – Terrarium Plant Cutting
A freshly taken ‘Silver Tree’-type Pilea cutting with approximately 5–6 leaves, supplied for propagation in warm, humid terrarium conditions.
Identification
“Silver Tree” is retained as the horticultural name used for this stock. Frogfather does not infer a species-level identification from the trade name alone unless botanical records accompany the plant.
Rooting status
This product is a cutting rather than an established rooted plant. Some pieces may show aerial or adventitious root development, but rooting and establishment are not guaranteed.
Growing conditions
- Light: medium to bright filtered/indirect light.
- Moisture: humid propagation conditions with a moist but aerated rooting medium.
- Humidity: high humidity can reduce water stress while rooting, but the previous “70–90% ideal” figure is not a universal biological requirement.
- Temperature: warm indoor conditions; avoid extremes and sudden changes.
Vivarium use
Once rooted and established, this plant can provide compact foreground/midground foliage. We no longer describe it as “perfect for dart frog vivariums”; animal-enclosure suitability depends on preparation, placement and the intended species.
Preparation
For sensitive amphibian enclosures, allow cuttings to root away from livestock and prepare them to minimise horticultural residues before introduction.
Plant & Vivarium-Use Review
Last reviewed: 5 September 2026
Plant performance depends on the individual species or cultivar, root condition, light, substrate, watering, ventilation and temperature. Frogfather therefore avoids presenting one fixed relative-humidity range as a universal requirement or calling a plant automatically “safe” for amphibians simply because the species is commonly used in vivariums.
For sensitive amphibian enclosures, plants should be inspected and prepared to minimise pesticide, fertiliser and propagation-product residues before introduction.
