Description
Juvenile Brazilian Dendrobates tinctorius – UK Bred
This listing is for one captive-bred juvenile Brazilian-form Dendrobates tinctorius, selected according to current availability unless otherwise arranged.
Growing juveniles on
Juveniles are unsexed. We have removed the suggestion that keepers should “slowly build compatible pairs or groups over time”. Compatibility cannot be reliably planned from juvenile appearance alone and may change substantially as animals mature.
Housing
Provide a well-structured terrestrial vivarium with generous usable floor space, leaf litter, refuges and visual barriers. The previous “45 × 45 × 45 cm or larger” wording should not be interpreted as a universal pair/group stocking rule.
Environment
Frogfather commonly keeps D. tinctorius in moderate low-to-mid-20s °C room conditions. Use a humid, well-ventilated enclosure with moisture gradients rather than a permanently fixed 70–90% RH target.
Feeding
Fruit flies and other appropriate small live prey are practical feeders. Springtails/isopods may be eaten where suitable, but microfauna presence in the enclosure does not replace deliberate feeding. Use an appropriate supplementation programme.
Live animal note: juveniles are not sexed; individual pattern and eventual adult behaviour vary.
Live-Animal Husbandry Review
Last reviewed: 5 September 2026
Temperature, moisture, enclosure size, social compatibility and supplementation should be matched to the species, life stage and individual animals. Frogfather therefore avoids treating a single RH percentage, fixed enclosure size or pair/group formula as a universal rule.
