Description
Confirmed Female Vietnamese Mossy Frog – Theloderma corticale
A mature female Vietnamese Mossy Frog offered as an individually assessed animal.
Sexing
This animal has been assessed over time using adult morphology and behaviour. Male Theloderma corticale commonly call, while females generally lack male calling behaviour; however, absence of calling alone should not be treated as absolute proof of sex.
Sex-ratio claims corrected
Earlier wording stated that captive clutches usually become male-heavy and discussed lowering rearing temperature to influence sex ratio. We do not currently have sufficiently strong published evidence to present either statement as established husbandry for this species.
Frogfather may record experimental observations in our own breeding work, but those observations should remain clearly labelled as experiments and should not be used to advise customers that temperature manipulation will produce females.
Housing
Provide a spacious, heavily structured enclosure with clean water, elevated retreats and appropriate ventilation/moisture cycles. Mossy frogs are strongly associated with cool, shaded forest and water-edge environments; avoid persistent overheating.
Handling
Handling should be kept to a minimum. Amphibian skin is permeable and sensitive to residues on human hands.
Live-Animal Husbandry Review
Last reviewed: 5 September 2026
Temperature, moisture, enclosure size, social compatibility and supplementation should be matched to the species, life stage and individual animals. Frogfather therefore avoids treating a single RH percentage, fixed enclosure size or pair/group formula as a universal rule.
