‘Darth Vader’ Begonia Hybrid – Dark-Foliage Terrarium Plant
A dark-foliage Begonia hybrid/trade form grown for its near-black leaves, velvety appearance and contrasting red/burgundy undersides.
Identification
“Darth Vader” is retained as the horticultural/trade name used for this plant. Unless reliable parentage records accompany a batch, Frogfather does not claim a specific hybrid formula or species identity beyond Begonia hybrid/trade form.
Growing conditions
- Light: low to moderate filtered/indirect light; avoid harsh direct light.
- Moisture: keep the root zone evenly moist but not permanently saturated.
- Humidity: performs well in humid terrarium conditions, but the previous 70–100% RH target is not a universal requirement.
- Airflow: provide useful ventilation to reduce stagnant wet foliage.
- Temperature: warm indoor conditions are generally suitable; adjust from plant response.
Establishment claims corrected
We have removed “optimised for success”, “settles quickly” and similar guaranteed-performance wording. Begonias can be sensitive to transplant stress, excess water, stagnant air and abrupt environmental changes.
Animal-enclosure use
The plant can provide attractive midground cover in suitable enclosures. Prepare nursery-grown material appropriately before use around sensitive amphibians; plant popularity in dart-frog displays is not itself proof of residue-free safety.

Plant performance depends on the individual species or cultivar, root condition, light, substrate, watering, ventilation and temperature. Frogfather therefore avoids presenting one fixed relative-humidity range as a universal requirement or calling a plant automatically “safe” for amphibians simply because the species is commonly used in vivariums.
For sensitive amphibian enclosures, plants should be inspected and prepared to minimise pesticide, fertiliser and propagation-product residues before introduction.
