Megoura viciae Pea Aphid Culture – 1000ml
A live culture of the relatively large pea aphid Megoura viciae, supplied as a supplementary soft-bodied feeder for appropriately sized insectivores.
Use
- Larger-bodied aphid than some commonly cultured pea-aphid types.
- Adds prey variety for animals that readily take aphids.
- Can provide a different movement/feeding opportunity from fruit flies.
Claims corrected
We have removed “highly digestible”, “ideal for” broad animal groups and claims that the species reliably triggers stronger feeding responses. Those outcomes depend on the predator and are not established universal properties of the feeder.
Use M. viciae within a varied feeding programme appropriate to the animal’s size, species and life stage. For amphibians, appropriate supplementation remains important.
Culture performance
The 1000ml format provides useful culture volume, but density, short-term production and longevity vary with culture age, host material, temperature and husbandry. They are not guaranteed at a fixed level.
Biosecurity
Keep cultures contained and do not intentionally release aphids outdoors. Dispose of unwanted live cultures responsibly.
