Description

Vivarium Glass Cleaner Tool – Limescale, Algae & Water-Mark Removal

A reusable physical cleaning tool for removing mineral deposits, algae film and water marks from glass without adding a chemical cleaning solution.

Why use a physical cleaner?

  • No detergent, acid or solvent is supplied with the tool.
  • Can reduce the need for chemical glass-cleaning products inside sensitive animal enclosures.
  • Designed for controlled hand cleaning of glass surfaces.

Safety wording corrected

We previously called the tool “amphibian-safe”. A chemical-free tool avoids one important exposure route, but no cleaning tool is automatically risk-free. Grit trapped in the surface can scratch glass, dislodged limescale can fall into the enclosure, and animals should not be allowed to contact the tool during cleaning.

How to use

  1. Where practical, keep frogs and other animals away from the area being cleaned.
  2. Rinse the tool first so no grit is embedded in the cleaning surface.
  3. Lightly wet the glass with clean water.
  4. Use gentle pressure and short passes.
  5. Remove loosened residue from the enclosure rather than allowing it to accumulate in water or substrate.
  6. Rinse the tool thoroughly after use.

Test first on a discreet area if the enclosure glass has a coating or film. Do not add household limescale remover, vinegar, detergent or other chemical to the tool while animals are present unless that product is specifically appropriate for the enclosure and all residues can be safely removed.

Amphibian Contact-Safety Review

Last reviewed: 5 September 2026

Amphibian skin is highly permeable and the absorption of chemicals can differ markedly between species and body regions. For that reason, Frogfather avoids describing products as generically “frog-safe” merely because they are natural, chemical-free, low-odour or free of volatile solvents. Direct-contact products and residues should be minimised unless their composition and intended amphibian use are known.

FAQ

FAQs

Is Glass Cleaner Pro safe to use around dart frogs and other amphibians?

Yes. Glass Cleaner Pro is chemical-free, making it suitable for amphibian environments. Use it as directed, avoid disturbing animals during cleaning, and rinse/wipe away loosened residue afterwards.

Will it scratch my vivarium or aquarium glass?

It’s designed with a non-abrasive, flat cleaning surface to reduce scratching risk. As with any tool, ensure there’s no trapped grit and rinse the pad regularly. Avoid using on acrylic unless you’ve tested a small area first.

Does it remove limescale and hard water marks?

Yes — it helps lift limescale, mineral deposits, and water marks. For heavy build-up, use multiple light passes rather than pressing hard.

Do I need to use chemicals like citric acid or vinegar?

No. Glass Cleaner Pro is designed to work with water and gentle pressure, reducing the need for acidic cleaners or blades in sensitive vivarium setups.

Can I use it on the inside of a bioactive vivarium?

Yes. It’s suitable for internal glass cleaning in bioactive enclosures. We recommend moving animals away from the cleaning area where possible, keeping cleaning time brief, and wiping/rinsing away loosened residue so it doesn’t drip into planting areas.

What’s the best way to keep the cleaning surface effective?

Rinse after each use, remove any trapped debris, and store it clean and dry. If the pad becomes contaminated with grit, do not use it on glass until fully cleaned.

Will it work on algae film and biological scum?

Yes — it’s effective for algae film and organic build-up on glass, especially with regular maintenance.

Can I use it on coated glass or special finishes?

If your enclosure uses special coatings, test a small inconspicuous area first. Most standard vivarium/aquarium glass is fine.
