Make Your Exo Terra More Suitable for Dart Frogs
Exo Terra vivariums are popular, accessible and attractive, but they were not designed specifically for dart frogs. One of their biggest drawbacks is the relatively open mesh covering the lower ventilation channels.
Those openings may be small enough to contain the frogs, but they can allow feeder fruit flies—particularly Drosophila melanogaster—to escape from the vivarium and spread around the house.
The Frogfather FlyLock™ Exo Terra Mesh Guards provide a simple, purpose-made solution.
Fine Ventilation Without the Wide Escape Routes
Each guard clips over the existing lower ventilation section. The closely spaced slots continue to permit airflow through the vivarium while creating a much more effective physical barrier against escaping fruit flies.
There is no need to permanently alter the vivarium, block the vents with tape or sacrifice the low-level airflow that helps a vivarium function correctly.

Will These Fit My Vivarium?
The standard product consists of two 20 cm mesh guards and is intended for the lower ventilation sections of the Exo Terra 45 × 45 × 60 cm vivarium.
Exo Terra designs and dimensions can vary between models and production versions. Please measure the ventilation sections on your own vivarium before ordering.
Need a Different Length?
We can manufacture FlyLock™ guards in other lengths. Simply enter the length you require in the order notes at checkout.
Unless a different measurement is requested, you will receive the standard pair of 20 cm guards.
Installation
- Check that the lower ventilation area is clean and unobstructed.
- Align the FlyLock™ guard with the existing vent.
- Gently press the clips into position.
- Check that the guard is secure along its full length before adding feeder flies.
These guards are intended to reduce escapes through the lower ventilation mesh. Fruit flies may still escape through door gaps, cable openings or other unsealed areas of a vivarium, so the complete enclosure should be checked before use.
