Description
3D-Printed Dart Frog Breeding Rock
A reusable rock-shaped printed hide providing a sheltered retreat and potential egg-deposition site for suitable dart frogs.
What it does
- Provides a dark, enclosed artificial shelter.
- Offers a smooth removable surface that can make inspection and cleaning easier.
- Can be positioned as one of several potential deposition sites within a structured vivarium.
Claims corrected
Earlier wording described the product as mould-resistant, non-toxic, bacteria-reducing and able to improve hatch rates by limiting contamination. Those claims have been removed. A printed hide does not prove lower microbial risk or improved reproductive success.
PLA and maintenance
The component is printed from PLA-based filament. Rinse before first use, inspect regularly and clean when fouled. Filament formulations can contain pigments and other additives, so the base polymer alone is not sufficient evidence to call every finished print biologically inert or universally amphibian-safe.
Breeding
Whether frogs use the hide depends on species, placement, humidity, temperature, social behaviour and individual preference. Providing a hide does not guarantee egg laying, fertility or hatch rate.
Breeding-Accessory Claim Review
Last reviewed: 5 September 2026
A printed hide can provide shelter and a potential deposition site, but it does not guarantee egg laying, fertility, hatch rate or lower infection risk. PLA is the base polymer; finished-part properties depend on filament formulation, pigments/additives, printing conditions and wear, so Frogfather does not describe a printed item as universally “non-toxic”, antibacterial or mould-proof solely because it is PLA.
