Marcgravia sp. ‘Bronze’ – Rooted Cutting
A rooted shingling Marcgravia-type plant with bronze/copper juvenile foliage, supplied for warm, humid planted terrariums and vivariums.
Identification
The “sp.” is intentional. “Bronze” is a horticultural/hobby name and Frogfather is not presenting this plant as a confirmed species-level identification without botanical verification.
Growth habit
Juvenile stems can grow closely against cork, branches and textured backgrounds, creating the characteristic shingling habit associated with many Marcgravia. Rooted plants may establish more reliably than fresh unrooted cuttings, but “rapid establishment” is not guaranteed.
Growing conditions
- Light: low to medium filtered/indirect light, adjusted according to growth.
- Moisture: keep the root zone evenly moist without permanent waterlogging.
- Humidity: suited to humid terrarium conditions, but a constant 80–100% RH target is not required as a universal rule.
- Airflow: provide useful ventilation in humid conditions.
- Temperature: warm tropical-room conditions are commonly suitable; monitor plant response rather than relying on one fixed 20–28°C prescription.
Animal-enclosure use
Marcgravia is popular as visual cover and structure in planted dart-frog and other tropical vivariums, but popularity does not prove that every supplied plant is residue-free. Inspect and prepare the plant before introduction to sensitive amphibians.

Plant performance depends on the individual species or cultivar, root condition, light, substrate, watering, ventilation and temperature. Frogfather therefore avoids presenting one fixed relative-humidity range as a universal requirement or calling a plant automatically “safe” for amphibians simply because the species is commonly used in vivariums.
For sensitive amphibian enclosures, plants should be inspected and prepared to minimise pesticide, fertiliser and propagation-product residues before introduction.
