Fungus Gnat Trap for Vivariums & Terrariums
A passive trap intended to help reduce adult fungus-gnat numbers around humid vivariums, terrariums and plant-growing areas.
Important animal-safety change
Do not place exposed adhesive where frogs, geckos, isopods or other animals can contact it. Earlier wording described the trap as “100% safe” and instructed keepers simply to unwrap it and place it inside the enclosure. We have removed that advice.
For animal enclosures, use the trap outside the animal-accessible space, for example adjacent to ventilation, or behind a secure barrier/mesh that allows small flying insects to reach the trap while preventing every enclosure inhabitant from touching the adhesive.
What it can and cannot do
- Can capture some flying adult gnats that encounter the trap.
- Does not remove eggs or larvae already developing in substrate.
- Does not replace correction of persistently wet substrate, excessive decaying food or other conditions supporting a gnat population.
- Effectiveness and useful life depend on insect pressure, humidity, dust and placement; “30 days” is not guaranteed.
Managing fungus gnats
Where appropriate for the animals and plants, reduce consistently saturated areas, remove decaying excess food and inspect incoming plants/substrates. Any pest-control treatment placed inside an amphibian enclosure should be selected conservatively because amphibian skin can absorb environmental chemicals.

Amphibian skin is highly permeable and the absorption of chemicals can differ markedly between species and body regions. For that reason, Frogfather avoids describing products as generically “frog-safe” merely because they are natural, chemical-free, low-odour or free of volatile solvents. Direct-contact products and residues should be minimised unless their composition and intended amphibian use are known.
