Marcgravia sp. ‘Umbellata Type’ – Rooted Cutting
A rooted shingling Marcgravia-type plant supplied for warm, humid planted terrariums and vivariums. The use of “sp.” is intentional: the product is not being presented as a confirmed species-level identification.
Growth
Juvenile growth can flatten/shingle against suitable cork, wood and textured backgrounds using clinging roots. Establishment speed varies with root development, light, moisture, substrate and the individual cutting.
Growing conditions
- Light: low to medium filtered/indirect light, adjusted according to growth.
- Moisture: keep evenly moist without permanently saturating the root zone.
- Humidity: suited to humid enclosures, but a constant 80–100% RH target is not required as a universal rule.
- Airflow: maintain useful ventilation rather than combining very high humidity with stagnant air.
- Temperature: warm tropical-room conditions are commonly suitable; monitor the plant rather than relying on one fixed 20–28°C range.
Animal-enclosure use
Marcgravia is popular as visual cover and climbing/shingling vegetation in dart-frog vivariums, but “popular” does not mean every plant is automatically safe on arrival. Inspect and prepare plants to minimise pesticide/fertiliser residues before introducing them to sensitive animals.
