Selaginella uncinata (Peacock Spikemoss) – Rooted Cutting

Selaginella uncinata, commonly called Peacock Moss/Peacock Spikemoss, is a creeping vascular plant with blue-green iridescence under suitable diffuse lighting. It is not a true moss.

Growing conditions

• Light: low to medium filtered/indirect light.
• Moisture: keep the root zone consistently moist but not permanently waterlogged.
• Humidity: performs well in humid terrarium conditions, but 80–100% RH is not a universal fixed requirement.
• Airflow: useful air movement helps reduce stagnant, constantly saturated conditions.
• Temperature: warm tropical-room conditions are generally suitable; avoid using one 20–27°C range as a precise universal optimum.

Animal-enclosure use

It can provide low ground cover in suitable planted vivariums. Plant choice does not itself establish animal safety: inspect/rinse plants and avoid introducing pesticide or fertiliser residues into amphibian enclosures.
